How to visit Mount Athos
- Access to Mount Athos is consented only to men (law of "avaton") who can demonstrate to have a religious or scientific interest; the maximum number of visitors per day is 110 (10 for foreigners) and a maximum stay of 4 days (with the possibility of an extension to be requested to the Authorities of Mt. Athos in Karyes).
- Access is never allowed to women.
- Those interested must request permission at least a month prior to their arrival, an additional month if the chosen period coincides with the celebration of Christmas, Easter and/or high summer season to:

The cost for access permission is € 35.00 for foreigners (€ 18.00 students up to 27 years old), meals and stay are free (donations are accepted). - No more than 10 entry permissions a day are given, and only for a maximum of 4 nights. Arrival must be confirmed at least two weeks prior to departure date. The permission must be picked-up personally by the interested parties who must present their passport upon arrival to OURANOUPOLIS.
- Behavior must be well-mannered in all aspects and conform to the holiness of this place. Access is severely forbidden to those who are not dressed appropriately, or have long, unkempt hair.
- As to boats, for those navigating around MOUNT ATHOS and have women on board, access is not permitted beyond a distance of 500 metres from the lower coast. The boat owners not adhering to that stated above, are subject to the provided sanctions for having violated the law relative to the "INACCESSIBILITY OF MOUNT ATHOS". Further, the use of an on-board loudspeaker at a volume hearable in the holy area is forbidden, as it may disturb the peace and holiness.
- Groups cannot visit Mount Athos more than once a week. Boats who make the trip from OURANOUPOLIS-DAPHNE, cannot encounter other cruise ships to change passengers, and above all if they transport women.
- The Bishops, belonging to a different ecclesiastical dogma, must obtain the permission ("evloghìa") given by the ECUMENICAL PATRIARCHY OF CONSTANTINOPLE, and achieved by writing to the following address:

- Filming is prohibited at Mount Athos; only photographs not using flash or tripods are permitted.
